The problem
McCann & Hubbard was a well-established real estate and business law firm serving Nashville, Davidson, and Williamson County — yet their website looked like something assembled in an afternoon in 2014. The homepage ran a JavaScript image slider with a photo of the receptionist at a desk and a caption: "Our professional staff is ready to assist with your residential and commercial needs." A slider. In a law firm.
Below the fold, the copy opened with "We are real estate professionals." — a statement so generic it could describe a mortgage broker, a title company, or a real estate agent. The practice area section was a plain grid of small rectangular boxes: 1031 Tax Deferred Exchanges, Builder Contracts, Business Law, Contract Law, Estate Planning, Loan Docs, Non-Profit, REO Transactions, Title Opinion Letters and Title Work. No descriptions. No linking. No hierarchy.
For a firm handling complex commercial transactions, estate planning, and corporate structuring for clients making major financial decisions, this was doing real reputational damage.
The goal
Reposition McCann & Hubbard as the authoritative, precise, high-calibre firm they actually are. The new site needed to command immediate respect from the moment a prospective client landed on it.
What we built
The redesigned site opens on an editorial dark design — deep charcoal backgrounds, gold accent type — with a headline that earns its confidence: "The Legal Architects." The word "Architects" appears in a gold serif italic, signalling precision, craft, and design thinking in a single word.
The hero section introduces the firm's founders through dramatic black-and-white portrait photography — Alistair McCann and Elena Hubbard — with their names, titles, and a two-sentence biography visible immediately. In legal services, clients hire people, not firms. Getting the attorneys' faces and credentials above the fold is a conversion decision, not just a design one.
Below the fold, a "Strategic Associates" section presents the wider team in the same photography style. Practice areas are now individual structured pages, each with a proper description, relevant context, and links to contact the firm. The navigation includes a "Free Consultation" CTA button that persists across the entire site.
“Clients mention the website before they mention anything else. It sets exactly the right tone for the work we do.”
